This album compiles Boris Gardiner's two first solo albums, "Soulful Experience" and "What's Happening?" (both 1970). Gardiner added a SOUL feeling to the Jamaican reggae ever since co-leading The Upsetters with Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Reputed Studio 1 session bass player and singer, nowadays Gardiner is also a producer for the studio. A beautiful, enjoyable blend of reggae, rocksteady and soul music. Gardiner was born in 1943 and at 17 years old he was already singing professionally with a band called "Rythm Aces". From 1967 to 1969 he was a studio musician for the legendary STUDIO ONE and also for TREASURE ISLE, credited with a number of hits such as "Nanny Goat," "Party Time," "Why Did You Leave" (Heptones). There he worked with artists such as Bob Andy, Marcia Griffiths, The Techniques, Dawn Penn, just to name a few. He has also performed with artists such as The Stylists, Ben E. King, Jackie Wilson, Brook Benton, Roy Hamilton, The Drifters, Nina Simone, Junior Walker, Bob Marley and John Holt. His recorded hits include "I Wanna Wake Up With You" (UK Charts three weeks #1, nine weeks Top Ten, and rated #3 Top Hundred for the year 1986); "You Are Everything To Me" (UK Charts #11 1986); and "Elizabeth Reggae" (UK Charts #15 1970). His recorded albums are "Soulful Experience", "What's Happening", "For All We Know", "Sledge Hammer", "Reggae Happenings", "Next To You", and "Lets Take A Holiday". Boris currently operates his own studio, and is now an accomplished composer, bassist, pianist, vocalist and producer.
