Originally released in 1993, Aske ("Ashes") is the landmark EP by the Norwegian solo project Burzum, created by Varg Vikernes (Count Grishnackh). The record further developed the stark, atmospheric sound introduced on Burzum's debut, combining raw guitar textures, minimalist songwriting and haunting melodies with an oppressive sense of isolation that became a defining element of the early Norwegian black metal movement.
Recorded during 1992, Aske captures Burzum at a pivotal moment, balancing primitive aggression with a growing emphasis on atmosphere and melancholy. Despite its brevity, the EP is widely regarded as one of the essential releases of early black metal, influencing countless bands through its uncompromising production and hypnotic, immersive compositions. This limited grey marble vinyl edition from Back On Black faithfully reissues the classic EP for a new generation of listeners.
