A collection of unissued or unbelievably rare and raw 1950s Detroit blues and R&B that will thrill every serious collector.
Mostly recorded on location in his record shop by Motor City entrepreneur Joe Von Battle and sold to King Records in the early 1950s, very little of this music has previously been reissued in any format - and almost 50% of the tracks here have never been issued at all.
Features several of the pre-Motown Detroit R&B scenes most beloved cult heroes, several of whom - like Eddie Burns and Joe Weaver - also recorded for the citys other big imprints like Fortune and Motown itself.
All bar two of the tracks are taken from the original tapes that were either sent by Von Battle to King or, in the case of Eddie Kirkland, recorded in Cincinnati under the supervision of Kings A&R chief Henry Glover - the two that are not, by Robert Richard, come straight from the original JVB acetate.
Thirty years after Mike Leadbitter first tried to get a vinyl equivalent of this CD off the ground, Ace is thrilled to finally get some of this primal roots music into shops and collections.
