Although fans still mourn the passing in 2003 of Johnny Cash, the man who epitomised the
darker side of American country music, they can celebrate his life through a rich legacy of
recordings.
The Arkansas born singer, songwriter and guitarist was signed to Sam Phillips' Sun label in
1954, alongside Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley. Known as 'The Man In Black' he began a long
series of hit singles with 'I Walk The Line' (1956) followed by 'Ballad Of A Teenage Queen' (1958),
which established him as one of the world's top selling artists.
Many more hits followed like 'Folsom Prison Blues', all delivered in that deep rich voice.
His often-sombre lyrics were contrasted by flashes of humour, on songs that told of loss, love
and tragedy. Destined for a career that spanned four decades, his youthful energy is evident
on the 25 tracks featured this essential Cash collection.
Includes the original recordings of
'I Walk The Line', 'Get Rhythm', 'Cry Cry Cry' and 'Folsom Prison Blues' - featured songs
in the award winning Johnny Cash bio-pic movie 'Walk the Line'.
