OCTOHPERA is a Brazilian band worth investigating ! The first album "Bons Amigos" (2002) begins quite good, with vocal polyphonies GENTLE GIANT or SPOCK’S BEARD would have been proud of. Add to this the warmth of the Portuguese tongue. Then comes the music, that confirms the potential shown in those first seconds a capella. Tracks are reminiscent of the so-called typical South-American symphonism, and are magnified by remarkable inspiration and playing. Acoustic guitar parts could remind Steve HACKETT: that’s no surprise as we realize how much influence the great GENESIS had on our five musicians. To conclude, one can say that this first attempt evolved in a masterpiece, and that also means that its author could be regarded as a natural leader of the new wave of Progressive rock in Brazil. A great achievement !… Couldn’t this eventually be the Latin ECHOLYN ?
