One of the world's leading congueros, Candido recorded this Brujerías (witchcratf pieces) in 1971 with the band of Tito Puente -of which Candido was a member-, who counts this album as one of his -that will give you an idea about how GOOD this stuff is! Candido was the man who first played two and three congas simultaneously and was a percussive and melodic genious. Featured here in a small group setting with the company of no less than "El Rey" Tito Puente's arrangements and Israel "Cachao" López's "tumbao" double bass on several songs, this is without a doubt one of Candido's best recordings ever! The set is an impeccable batch of jazzy percussion tracks -- with Candido in the lead on congas, and the group grooving behind him in a much more open-ended way than any of his other 50 recordings. The whole session has a firey "descarga feel" -- with lots of jazz, lots of percussion, and lots of action! Take More Candi has one of the all-time best solos...ever. Candido throws down hard. There's some incredible technique going on in his solo and the sound is equally amazing. 'Ti-Chi-Can' has Tito Puente, Chino Pozo on bongos and Candido on congas. You know, if Puente counts this Brujerías as his own, YOU need to have it too!!
