This session, produced by Lionel Hampton circa 1977, was part of a series of sessions that Hampton recorded during this period to prove to the world that jazz was still alive and well. Here, Hampton brings us the talented drummer Buddy Rich and surrounds him with the usual team of solid musicians, including tenor saxophonists Steve Marcus, Paul Moen and Gary Pribeck; percussionist Candido Camero (a fixture in the Hampton sessions); pianist Barry Kiener and bassist Tom Warrington. The album opens with two Coltrane tracks "Moment's Notice" and "Giant Steps", excellent challenges for the three saxplayers who attack the pieces by alternating the solos. The remaining tracks are also all strong. This reissue also includes a previously unreleased "Hamp, Rich, Dido Blues" taken from the same session and featuring the vocals of Jon Hendricks.
