WELCOME TO LPCDREISSUES
Obituary – Cause of Death is one of the defining albums of early Florida death metal. Originally released in 1990, the band’s second full-length combines crushing, doom-heavy riffing with sudden bursts of speed, all driven by John Tardy’s unmistakable guttural vocals.
The album is the only Obituary studio record to feature guitarist James Murphy, known for his work with Death, Disincarnate and Testament. His lead playing adds a melodic and often almost classical edge to the band’s relentlessly heavy rhythm section.
Cause of Death includes enduring tracks such as “Infected”, “Body Bag”, “Chopped in Half” and the title track, alongside the band’s powerful version of Celtic Frost’s “Circle of the Tyrants”.
With its combination of slow, oppressive riffs, violent tempo changes and Scott Burns’ classic Morrisound-era production, the album remains one of the most influential recordings in the death metal genre.
This Real Gone Music edition has been remastered for vinyl and is pressed on gray vinyl with black splatter. It also includes an insert and marks the album’s first American vinyl reissue in nearly three decades.
