Suzanne Vega was one of the pioneers of the female Singer Songwriters that domineered the late eighties and early nineties. Her unexpected self-titled hit album Suzanne Vega from 1985, with well-loved song 'Marlene On The Wall' topped the charts and won her the admiration of critics and public alike.
On Close Up volume 1 (MOVLP178) we were treated to her best songs on love.
Close Up Volume 2: People & Places includes Vega's two biggest international hits 'Luka' and 'Tom's Diner.' And yet this is, in a manner of speaking, a trip down memory lane, she cleverly manages to avoid sentimental nostalgia. The acoustic arrangements are clever and she's not afraid of using new material; 'Man Who Played God' - co-written with Danger Mouse and the late Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse) was first released in 2010. On vinyl for the first time, this release is pressed on 180 grams audiophile vinyl in a beautiful gatefold sleeve.
