As Widespread Panic fans will already know, Brute is a side-line project with their long-time friend and songwriter, Vic Chesnutt. At the age of 18, Vic was involved in a car accident that left him confined to a wheelchair. Soon after he began gigging around Athens, Georgia and hooked up with REM's Michael Stipe who contributed production work to Vic's early albums. Vic released his debut album, "Little" in 1989 and went on to record 8 more albums. Madonna, REM, Hootie and the Blowfish and Smashing Pumpkins have covered Chestnutt songs on the 1996 tribute album, "Sweet Release Two".The first Brute album, " Nine High a Pallet " was released in 1995.
