We are always happy to discover new jazz guitar talents, but in Roland Prince's case it is a REdiscovery. Prince is not well known to the general public, but fans of the genre may have had the opportunity to hear the man in action on Summit Meeting (Vanguard/Universe) in the company of Elvin Jones, Bunky Green, Clark Terry, and James Moody. As a soloist he recorded two excellent albums for Vanguard - Colour Visions and Free Spirit - with the help of Randy Brecker, Joe Farrell, Kenny Barron, Buster Williams, and others. From the homage to Coltrane on "Giant Steps" to the latin jazz track "Samba De Unity", to the delicious calypso "Iron Band Dance", Prince's solo playing leaves an indelible mark.
