This folk trio put out a pair of albums (The Halifax Three and The San Francisco Bay Blues) for Columbia in 1962 and 1963 that ranked right up there with anything label-mates the New Christy Minstrels and the Brothers Four recorded, yet because they came right out at the tail end of the folk boom, these two albums went nowhere commercially (and the fact that they recorded a song called "The Man Who Wouldn’t Sing Along with Mitch" as a jab at Columbia A&R tyrant Mitch Miller probably didn’t help). But folk fans’ loss was rock fans’ gain, as lead singer Denny Doherty went on to great fame with the Mamas & Papas!
