Long before Rock'n'Roll broke to a grateful world, things were brewing... the kind of sound that the likes of Sam Phillips and Bill Haley hankered after wasn't a fantasy. There was a continuation of their beloved Western Swing and Boogie forms right through the 1940s and 1950s... diffuse, yes, waiting for a focus, yes, but what was known as either Hillbilly Boogie or Cat Music... it was real alright and did it rock? You better believe it!!!! And no better way to start our series of Pre-Elvis country/R&B hybrids than with the old guard. Crazy cats who had been at it for years, gleefully confusing both racial boundaries and radio programmers and influencing everything that was to become Rockabilly! Everyone from Bill Haley to Elvis to Marc Bolan (who outrageously nicked "Hayride Boogie" lock stock and barrel for his "I Love To Boogie"!) has their roots in these songs. The true sound of White America in the 1940' and early 1950s... redneck mumbling or syrupy string ballads meant less than nothing when you could get REAL GONE! The rise of The Hillbilly Cat Supreme (Yeah! ELVIS!) has overshadowed the role of these pioneers of ROCK ACTION in history but here in spectacular sound and beautiful packaging. It's absolute Boogie heaven!
