One of the major voices in avant-garde jazz, alto and baritone saxophonist Charles Tyler spent much of his early career playing with Albert Ayler (appearing both on Ayler's Bells and Spirits Rejoice). In 1966 Tyler released the Charles Tyler Ensemble, his own fiery debut as front man featuring Charles Moffett, Joel Friedman, Henry Grimes, and Ronald Shannon Jackson. Also available on CD (ESP 1029).
