Producer Bob Shad is the deus ex-machina of this incredible jam session which took place on August 14, 1954 in L.A. Not fully satisfied with having involved Clifford Brown, drummer Max Roach, Harold Land, Richie Powell and George Morrow, Shad added to this quintet a rising star of alto sax, Herb Geller, and the amazing trumpets of Clark Terry and Maynard Ferguson, completing the parade of stars with the choice of the highly inspired voice of Dinah Washington.
