This is one of our continuing forays into the Kent Modern vaults and it's another strong set of gutsy soul that will appeal to all serious soul fans.
Tracks vary from the unissued early soul of Marvin Phillips (from 50s coupling Marvin & Johnnie) to the neo semi psychedelic Motown sound of the Windjammers 'Poor Sad Child Pt 1'.
Big name soul singers include the Ikettes, Mary Love, Jimmy McCracklin and Johnny Copeland, while the highly respected Jackie Day, Jeb Stuart and Felice Taylor are represented too.
Group fans get offerings from The Four Tees, Little Henry & The Shamrocks (early Miles Grayson) and Terry & The Tyrants and there are fascinating contributions from the obscure Willie Gauff, Frank Armstrong, Bobby White and Esther Williams
Unreleased tracks include an Arthur Wright-produced Freeman King track and the aforementioned Jimmy McCracklin, Willie Gauff and Terry & The Tyrants numbers. Al King, Willie Headen and Tommy Youngblood will provide interest for the blues fans and several of these tracks are from the tougher end of the soul world
