Fritz The Cat, directed by Ralph Bakshi and based on a subject by Robert Crumb, was the first cartoon for adults only to be screened in cinemas. Almost all the songs included in this soundtrack were composed by Ed Bogas, and the list of musicians that took part to the recording sessions of the album includes Melvin Sparks, Merl Sauders, Cal Tjader, and many more (in other worts the best American studio musicians of late '60s and early '70s). The music itself is a cocktail of funk, rhythm 'n' blues, soul, jazz, and the result is something that could be defined primordial aacid jazz. Last but not least, the soundtrack includes guest appareances by Bo Diddley (with a rendition of the song he dedicated to himself), Billie Holiday (singin' "Yesterday"), and Alice Stuart (singin' the theme Fritz The Cat). The cover reproduces the original artwork based upon Robert Crumb's comic-strips.
