Brothers and Sisters! Here we go with a new VampiSoul compilation! And it’s time we give you something different: As the much welcome “In search of the Cool” (VAMPI 0013), this one features the very best from our catalogue and it’s guaranteed to make you feel good either dancing, sweating or making love. But GETTIN’ SOULFUL is an advance compilation which brings you a selection from the new and the yet-to-be-released VampiSoul catalogue: Therefore, you will find some familiar names here. Others will not ring any bell. Yet. Just wait till you hear ‘em, and every bell will be ringin’!! A perfect introduction to get to know the HOTTEST of the Hot new albums we got in store for you... And what does that mean? It means obscure musicians who are as powerful as any main act of their times could get, like Cossa Nostra (the Mexican answer to the Family Stone) or Willie Henderson, who arranged, wrote and produced numerous hit records for the Brunswick label, including Aretha's "Super Soul Sister" Erma Franklin. Down in New Orleans we find Eddie Bo,a talent scout for obscure labels like Scram, Uzza, Fireball or Bo Sound, producing his own releases and other acts, a true King to the crown of New Orleans Funk-Soul. A Hard Hittin' Funk anthology of Eddie´s work is due in 2004.Before lettin' the world know Chicano Rock -via El Chicano's "Viva Tirado", performed here by The Fania All-Stars-, Rampart Records already had a long existence defining "Pachuco Soul": The Village Callers' only album has been recognised to "show" Santana how to Rock a Jazz song or draw skeetches to future Hip-Hop in the beats of "Hector"....Bugaloo, an exciting version of a danceable soul that grew in El Barrio at Harlem, is represented excellently here with Johnny Colon, Lenny Sesar, Pete Rodriguez and Orchestra Harlow, each one as savage as the next. Sabu, Candido, Mongo Santamaria, Cachao, Fania All Stars and Irakere could come up with dancefloor hits but their hearts were in Latin Jazz or AfroCuban-Jazz. Same with Armando Peraza, who accompanied Sly Stone, Santana, Chet Baker, Charlie Parker... We reserve a place for those who rejected the dominant trends of the rock era: Lounge music was the work of those who followed a different aesthetic criteria and sound heretic to us today. Cal Tjader or Sexteto Electronico Moderno, from Swingin' Montevideo -Uruguay, are a prime example of such genre.More GOOD news is that VampiSoul is working on a Joe Bataan new album!... judgin' by the raw energy of "Chick-A-Boom", we can expect a MAJOR thing comin' out in the next few months.
