Guru Guru was founded 1968 by Mani Neumeier and Uli Trepte. They played before in the free jazz influenced Irene Schweizer Trio. Mani Neumeier played from 1966 to 1968 with well known musicians like Peter Broetzmann, Peter Kowald, Champion Jack Dupree, Philly Jo Jones (Miles Davis), Alex V. Schlippenbach, Manfred Schoof Quintett, Globe Unity Orchestra plus other bands at the Berlin Jazz festival and at many other European Festivals and in clubs around the world. German Rock Music´s first presence was felt in 1968; it was a movement that later became a worldwide influence on music. Acts such as Kraftwerk, Cluster, Amon Düül, Can, Guru Guru, Faust and Tangerine Dream, to name just a few, tried what had not been done before: A new way of expression in music and lifestyle. They created a german underground scene that was not influenced by anglo-american idols. Other countries soon took an interest in this new music. Those bands toured Europe and the U.S. in early seventies and showed that they had enough self-confidence potential to make it on an international level. Impressed by this, musicians like Brian Eno and David Bowie claimed that they were fascinated by german bands like Kraftwerk and Cluster (they later recorded two albums with Eno). The will to experiment, producing sound collages, non-song structured music and noise, must be seen nowadays as the birth of industrial electronic music. Guru Guru was one of the most popular outfites in the seventies as well as one of the most experimental ones! Mani Neumeier and his ever changing line up of Guru Guru, produced some of the most innovative albums in the German music history. Their first four albums 'UFO', 'Hinten', 'Kaenguru' and 'Guru Guru' were as experimental as it gets and their music was often referred to as acid-space music. Music that follows no rules, which made it free and inspirational. The presently continue to produce albums that sound nothing like mainstream music. Guru Guru originality is still intact to this date and on stage they are one of the most colourful, energetic bands ever. Since ten years the Guru Guru line-up didn´t change. In September 2005 Guru Guru released their new album 'In The Guru Lounge' and start touring again. Since November 2005 Revisited Records also starts releasing the old classic Guru Guru albums as Deluxe Editions.
Originally Released 1979 ‚Hey Du' (Hey You) has nothing common with the psychedelic Guru Guru´s of the early 1970´s. Even Mani Neumeier was flowing with the time as they were musically at the end of 70´s. Only the weird track 'Atomolch' is a song that explores the bizarre and evident imagination of Mani Neumeier. All in all the album is a worthwhile purchase for fans and listeners who are into Krautrock.
The band remains active to this day and also has a huge following in Japan where they have often toured. Mr. GURU GURU himself, Mani Neumeier, one of the greatest drummers ever is a German rock icon. 'Hey Du' is a deluxe edition digipak with enhanced booklet and bonus material. The CD is carefully remastered by mastering expert Eroc.
