The Jayhawks are an American alternative country and rock band that emerged from the Minneapolis music scene during the mid 1980s. Guitarist Gary Louris liked to describe the Jayhawks as "Like folk music, but really loud". They released seven studio albums so far, including five on the American Recordings label. In 1992 the Jayhawks had their major label release, 'Hollywood Town Hall', on Def American. Though Louris' fuzzy guitar was at the forefront, a clear folksy influence was also emerging in Olson's and Louris' songwriting.
The album meant their breakthrough, powered by the single 'Waiting for the Sun'. It is a masterpiece of American songwriting, blending irresistible melodies, ringing guitars, and Louris' and Olson's gorgeous harmonies with moody, imagery-rich lyrics.
