Recorded in December 1986 during the same two sessions as Reflections in Blue , Hours After is an intriguing mix of radically reelaborated standards - "But Not for Me" (Gershwin) and "Beautiful Love" (Gillespie, et al) - and three typically inspired avant originals ("Hours After", "Dance of the Extra Terrestrians" and "Love On A Far Away Planet"). Both LPs are of a similarly high caliber, but Hours After features a particularly strong Arkestra - this14-piece version features Randall Murray on trumpet, Tyrone Hill on trombone and John Gilmore on tenor sax.
