I'll Have A… Bucket Of Brains (The Original 1972 Rockfield Recordings For U.A.) collects the legendary recordings made by San Francisco garage rock heroes The Flamin' Groovies during their brief association with United Artists in Britain in 1972.
After moving to the UK, the Groovies began working with producer Dave Edmunds, recording a remarkable set of tracks that marked an important transition in the band's sound. The raw rock & roll attack of their earlier records was now combined with jangling guitars, British Invasion influences and the melodic power-pop style they would perfect several years later.
Among these recordings are early versions of two of the band's greatest songs, Shake Some Action and You Tore Me Down. Although the recordings were intended to form the basis of a new United Artists album, the project was abandoned and the complete sessions remained unreleased at the time.
The collection also includes the uncompromising Slow Death, alongside versions of Freddy Cannon's Tallahassee Lassie, Chuck Berry's Little Queenie, Married Woman and Get A Shot Of Rhythm And Blues. The final track presents the 1995 mixdown of Shake Some Action at its original recording speed.
These sessions provide the missing link between the hard-driving garage rock of Teenage Head and the melodic guitar sound of the classic 1976 Shake Some Action album, making them essential listening for fans of garage rock, power pop and rock & roll.
This special Record Store Day 2021 edition marked the first vinyl release bringing together all of these 1972 United Artists recordings. Pressed on black 10-inch vinyl, it was issued in a worldwide limited edition of 6,500 copies.
