In between his time as lead singer for cult freakbeat band The Sorrows, and, the mega (but novelty) hit Indian Reservation in 1970, Fardon cut some very exciting pop beat records, what one would have termed at the time "real hip groovy music”.
The source material for this collection are the recordings Fardon made with Miki Dallon in 1968 and 1969. Some were released on an LP called The Love Story of Don Fardon, others for singles, mostly released in Europe on Vogue and the US on GNP Crescendo.
The music is very much of its time, bold brass, swinging string arrangements, rocking guitar, groovy hammond, backing Fardon's rich baritone. Happily this finds much favour with todays 60's clubs, and one track in particular 'I'm Alive' is requested in the northern soul clubs and on radio. There is also a brilliant cover of the Beatles 'Back In The USSR' which Fardon growls through and a hammond swirls through the middle eight.
The Sorrows were neatly packaged by Sanctuary, and Indian Reservation is available on many hits compilations. However RPM presents the essential selection of Fardons peak recording period, and with none of the recordings having been released on CD in the Uk, this is an essential purchase for any 60's collector. This is the first proper collection of Fardons recordings after the Sorrows Great 60's pop beat collection and contains excellent club material with the title track a Northern Soul favourite. This is the first time for the recordings on CD!
