In a Wild Sanctuary was Beaver & Krause's first album for Warner Bros., and in its own way it was every bit as groundbreaking as their 'Nonesuch Guide to Electronic Music', using sounds found in nature (or, more accurately, in the city of San Francisco) as a compositional element for the first time. Nowadays, of course, the use of nature sounds is commonplace, especially in New Age recordings, but back in the late '60s the idea was revolutionary. And this was far from a New Age record, employing such serious sessionmen as Dave Grusin, Howard Roberts and Bud Shank. The song titles give a clue as to what kind of unique listening experience you're in for: 'Walking Green Algae Blues; Another Part of Time; Spaced; Aurora Hominis; So Long as the Waters Flow; Salute to the Vanishing Bald Eagle; Sanctuary; And There Was Morning', and 'People's Park'.
