Label: Progressive Line
Asgærd’s only album is a fine example of early-1970s British progressive rock with a strong melodic and slightly mystical character. Originally released on Threshold, the label associated with The Moody Blues, In The Realm Of Asgærd mixes organ-led prog, folk-tinged passages, violin colour and warm multi-part vocals into a sound that is polished but still very much underground.
The album has a distinctive atmosphere: not as heavy as hard prog, and not as pastoral as pure folk rock, but somewhere between the two. Songs such as Friends, Town Crier, Children Of A New Born Age and Starquest show a band with a clear sense of drama and arrangement, making this a rewarding title for collectors of British progressive rock from the Threshold/Decca orbit.
