Without Chet Akins, country music probably never would have climbed to the top of the pop charts
in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Besides having recorded hundreds of albums as a solo artist, Chet Atkins was
a major influence on numerous artists both as a musician and producer. He created the so-called
“Nashville Sound” - that particular style of country music that fused elements of pop music and honky
tonk. As a guitarist, he is without peers; he took inspiration from the maestro Merle Travis, but Atkins
was much more original and inventive. “In Three Dimensions” is one of his most characteristic albums
of the fifties. Here Atkins ranges over a variety of genres while always maintaining a style all his own. The album is divided into three
distinct sections and opens with the reinterpretation of four folk tunes, including “Arkansas Traveler”. The second portion is more pop
oriented and in “Little Rock Getaway” we find influences of Les Paul, while “Blues in The Night” combines country and jazz. Atkins also
proposes a rereading of several classical music pieces, that strangely seem to fit right in. Also includes 21 bonus tracks all recorded
in the mid fifties. An essential addition to your Chet Atkins collection.
