It is undoubtedly needless to recall the course of one of the most popularly known English groups of the Seventies. For memory’s sake, here is its studio discography: "From Genesis To Revelation..." was recorded in 1968. Not a mature album, buth the forerunner of a simply exceptional tetralogy. "Tresspass" in 1970, "Nursery Cryme" in 1971, "Foxtrot" in 1972, and "Selling England By The Pound" in 1973 were realized in this order before "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" skyrocketted in 1974. A first period was achieved here, along with Peter GABRIEL’s departure. "A Trick Of The Tail" in 1975 and "Wind And Wuthering" were pursued along the lines of a typically English lyrical Progressive rock, mixed with folk and children’s nursery rhymes. When "...And Then There Were Three..." took off in 1978, the GENESIS consisting of Phil COLLINS, Tony BANKS, and Mike RUTHERFORD Progressively made its way toward an extremely popular music, punctuated with major hits in the Eighties. Notice, in the same way as always, an omnipresence of originality and experimentation present in at least one piece in "Duke" (1981), the self-titled album (1983), "Invisible Touch" (1986), and "We Can’t Dance" (1991). The current GENESIS saw the departure of the future successful singer Phil COLLINS, being repalced by Ray WILSON. "Calling All Stations", in this way, saw th light in 1997, marking a certain return toward complex and ambitious music (Although not so much Progressive rock). A special trait to mention would be the rediscovered omnipresence and creativity in Tony BANKS. For a piece of work like "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" making a come-back (often considered the peak of English works and recognized today as one of the greatest classics worthy of display in a high place in the Pantheon of Progressive rock...) one could say that this double-album clearly has a space reserved apart from other works. Particularly in form (And voice), Peter GABRIEL tells us the story of Rael. This mysterious Puerto-Rican punk wandering the dark streets of New York carries us with him into unforeseeable and surrealistic adventures (1974)... Nonetheless, don’t be afraid ! In this entire initiatory journey, you will be accompanied by the whole legendary group (and for the last time, before long...). Alongside, you will find find Phil COLLINS on the drums, and Mike RUTHERFORD on the twelve-string guitar and bass. Then Tony BANKS, in a gracefully prestigious state with an impressive assortment of keyboards, pursues a perpetual rediscovery of the famous "It" that everyone continues to talk about for the last twenty-five years ! There's no need to tell the story of genesis, one of the most famous group of popular music of the nineties. Although the general public are above all familiar with the hit-songs of the eighties sang by Phil Collins, the music specialists only listen to progressive rock and the songs of the seventies. Between these two periods of time, there has been a transition, unfairly ignored by people but undoubtedly as fascinating as the two other periods. the DVD "Inside Genesis - An Independent Critical Review 1975-1980" (2004) allows to rediscover the four albums released after Peter Gabriel had left the group, that is "A Trick Of The Tail", "Wind And Wuthering", "...And Then There Were Three..." and "Duke". This movie involves shows extracts from the 1980 tour as well as some interesting interviews. This is surely one of the major events of the year !
