The latest album from Loudon is his 19th. Loudon’s career as a folk singer/songwriter began in the late ’60’s but it wasn’t until 1970 that he was signed to Atlantic Records and released his first album.His third album, “Album III” released in 1973 produced the novelty hit “Dead Skunk”. In the mid-70’s Loudon appeared in the off-Broadway show, “Pump Boys and Dinettes” and had a featured role in the TV series, “M*A*S*H. He returned to recording with two albums for Arista, before moving to Rounder Records in 1980. In 1985 he moved to London where he recorded two more albums for Rounder, both co-produced by Richard Thompson. Loudon returned to the States in 1989 and released “Therapy” for Silvertone. In 1992 he signed to Charisma, a subsidiary of Virgin. “Last Man on Earth” is a collection of songs Loudon wrote following the death of his mother that also coincided with a recently failed romance. Living a solitary existence in his late mother’s home in Westchester County, NY, he feared that he wouldn’t be able to write songs again. However, eventually he composed 8 songs before deciding to withdraw from the melancholy of Westchester for “an undisclosed location in Suffolk County, New York” where he completed 5 more songs for this album.
