After Dizzy Gillespie, Cal Tjader was the American musician most important in amalgamating jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms into an authentic and vital music. Beginning in the 1950s, Tjader's bands profoundly influenced the course of Latin jazz. This delightful 1956 album included two of San Francisco's rhythmic Duran brothers on piano and bass, with percussionists Luis Miranda and Bayardo Velarde. Tenor saxophonist Brew Moore, one of Tjader's favorite soloists, is a featured guest on several pieces. The recording is in excellent early two-track stereo.
