Liam Clancys first solo album, released in August 1965 by Vanguard Records.
It truly was a solo album: beyond a single additional vocal by Luke Kelly, all that was heard was Liams singing and guitar.
"I never heard a singer as good as Liam, he was just the best ballad singer I ever heard in my life" - Bob Dylan.
In his choice of songs, Liam Clancy reclaimed The Patriot Game from Dylan, who had issued his With God On Our Side the previous year on his "The Times They Are A-Changin" album. A cohesive album, it mixed traditional material with songs by MacColl, Peter Sheperd and others.
Nowadays Liam is back in Ireland and runs a recording studio on the west coast. His 1965 solo album is an important reminder that Liam Clancy was so much more than simply one of the Clancy Brothers.
