“It’s Tex in excelsis, justly acclaimed as a landmark of Southern Soul.” Q
RPM picks up on a successful series begun by the Connoisseur Collection and strikes home with the next two volumes, planned but never released.
The late Joe Tex was amongst the most popular Southern Soul artists of the mid-late 60s. Equally at home with up-tempo songs and even disco, Joe's major successes came with a series of 'preaching' deep soul singles that espoused the down home values of life in America's Deep South. This series reissues all the Tex LP's on CD for the first time and will contain all his US and international hits, plus bonus tracks, recorded for Dial records until his death in 1982.
Vol.3 collects together two albums released through Atlantic in 1968; Live and Lovely (not really live at all, a studio album with audience additions), featuring the US Billboard hits 'Papa Was Too' (R&B), 'Show Me', 'Skinny Legs & All' (Top 10), and the thematic Soul Country. Added to this is a bonus tracks the single hit 'Men Are Getting Scarce'. Both packages come with extensive liner notes from Clive Richardson and fold out poster inlays with rare photos.
