As the ‘60s were drawing to a close, it was a time of greatuncertainty and change for the youth of America. Gone were theflower-power days of the summer of love, to be replaced with thepolitical friction created by the escalating war in Vietnam.Hendrix too was undergoing a series of personal and professionalchanges. A possible jail sentence was hanging over his headfollowing a drug bust in May 1969 in Toronto, and a month laterbassist Noel Redding announced his decision to quit the group.Hendrix assembled a new band which rehearsed, jammed live andthen played Woodstock. Then followed the short-lived Band OfGypsys, formed mainly to record an album to get Ed Chalpin andMike Jeffrey off his back. Finally acquitted of the Canadian drugs charge, Hendrix went backon the road with Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell. His arrival at Berkeleyon the 30th May 1970 was set against a back drop of studentunrest, resulting in violent clashes with State troopers thatculminated in governor Ronald Regan calling in the National Guard, who swiftly restored order by killing one student and injuring afurther 30. Despite this, Hendrix delivered what many commentatorsbelieve was one of his finest performances, with the first showundoubtedly being the better of the two. Finally, following the firstofficial release of the 2nd show, we are proud to release the first ofthese two historic concerts. Enjoy!Track Listing:1. Fire2. Johnny B Goode3. Hear My Train A Comin’4.
