Locomotive began life in Birmingham with strong roots in jazz, soul and ska, but by the time they recorded We Are Everything You See they had moved into something far stranger and more ambitious. Brass, organ, psychedelia and early progressive rock all collide here, giving the album a character quite unlike most British records of the period. The music can be theatrical, dark, playful and unexpectedly heavy, often changing direction within a single song.

Led by Norman Haines, the band created an album that feels caught between two worlds: the sharp rhythmic energy of their earlier singles and the expanding possibilities of late-60s progressive rock. Horn arrangements and keyboard textures give the record real colour, while the more dramatic pieces reveal a band willing to push beyond straightforward pop or blues forms. This Eclipse Records edition greatly expands the original album with twelve bonus tracks, including single sides and BBC material, giving a much fuller picture of this inventive Birmingham group.
