Label: On The Air
Recorded during Love’s post-Forever Changes period, Live In England 1970 captures Arthur Lee leading the band through a tougher, more electric phase of their career. The set moves between the sharp psychedelic songwriting of the 1960s and the heavier, looser sound that defined Love’s Blue Thumb era, giving the performances a rawer edge than the group’s classic studio albums.
What makes this live document especially interesting is the way familiar songs sit alongside material from the later Love catalogue. Pieces such as August, Stand Out, Gather 'Round and Singing Cowboy show a band leaning into extended guitar work and open-ended arrangements, while My Little Red Book, Orange Skies and Signed D.C. connect the performance back to the group’s earlier psychedelic identity. This On The Air edition adds three bonus tracks, rounding out the picture of Love at a transitional and highly charged moment.
