LPCDreissues: Looking forward to the past

New Model Army are an English rock band formed in Bradford in 1980, fronted by singer/guitarist and principal songwriter Justin Sullivan. Emerging from a post-punk roots, they’ve built a style that blends urgent alternative-rock drive with darker moods and socially conscious lyrics.

The Love of Hopeless Causes is the band’s sixth studio album, released on 29 March 1993 on Epic. Largely produced by Niko Bolas (with “Afternoon Song” produced by Riku Mattila), it pushes toward a more direct, hard-edged rock sound than some of their earlier, more folk-influenced work. Standout songs include “Here Comes the War,” “Fate,” and “Living in the Rose.”
