Perhaps their biggest misfortune was being from Liverpool, because it meant that they would always stand in the shadow of their more famous cousins. However, the Searchers managed to take that original 1960s “Liverpool Sound” and made it their own, knocking the Beatles out of the number 1 spot with the release of their first single “Sweets For My Sweet” in 1963. Meet The Searchers (originally released on Pye in 1964), is the Searchers’ first LP, and includes their what would become their most famous song “Needles & Pins”. The album, however, had the bad luck of being released at the same time as their old rivals’ Please Please Please , which arguably was all that kept Meet The Searchers from claiming the number one spot in the album charts.
