A complex, problematic, at times brilliant work, "Mio fratello è figlio unico" (1976) is probably the album that expresses best the peculiar philosophy of Rino Gaetano. in a particular artist accomplished the universe of Crotone. Entirely focused on the issues of marginalization, however treated in a non-folk nor pathetic way, the album disc finds its climax in its title-track, perhaps the most significant and intense song he ever wrote. The "one-child brother" is the quintessential character of Gaetano's exacerbated nursery rhymes, the individual "who has never found the courage to undergo surgery to his liver" or "has never traveled second class on the rapid train Taranto-Ancona": outcast by his decency and honesty, he's however "convinced that underpaid and frustrated exploited people still exist".
The sight of the disillusioned singer does not hide solidarity or participation towards the poorest ones, evenutally proving to be far more social and political than many colleagues then.
