Mom's Apple Pie came from Warren, Ohio, with a sound that placed them firmly in the early-1970s American brass-rock tradition, but with enough grit to stand apart from the smoother side of the genre. The group’s large line-up allowed them to combine hard rock guitars, soul-influenced vocals, horns and keyboards into songs that feel big, lively and full of movement. There is a clear connection to bands such as Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Rare Earth, but Mom's Apple Pie bring a rougher bar-band energy that gives the album its own personality.

Originally released in 1972, the album became almost as famous for its cover controversy as for the music itself. The censored version replaced the original suggestive artwork with added visual details, turning the sleeve into a small piece of rock-and-roll folklore. Beneath that story, however, is a strong album: bluesy, soulful, ambitious and played with the confidence of a seasoned ten-piece band. This limited Hifly edition presents the classic debut with the censored cover artwork.
