Recorded live in 1962, Nina At The Village Gate represents the very pinnacle of Nina Simone's early career. The Village Gate was something of a home base for Nina and nowhere else did she perform with such enthusiasm and ease. That night, backed by a trio of guitar, bass and drums, Nina had the crowd eating out of her hand as she passed absolutely effortlessly from Broadway, to folk, to the African work song, obviously at home in every idiom.
