Randy Burns was eighteen when, while working at Gerde’s Folk City, in NYC, he was asked by Bernard Stollman, if he wanted to record an album. Of course he did, and he eventually recorded his first three albums for ESP as well as playing in benefit concerts with other ESP-artists like The Fugs, Sun Ra, Pearls Before Swine, The Godz and others. His first album Of Love and War was a solo album with some 12 string accompaniment by Emery Fletcher, and revealed burns to be a wideranged folksinger with a smooth, melodious voice, singing his own songs and an interesting choice of covers (like Eric Anderson’s “Thirsty Boots”). Afterward, he formed the Sky Dog Band in 1968, doing folk/rock ballads in New York, this group had quite a following.
