Led by keyboardist Henry KRUTZEN and bassist-keyboardist Alain LEMAÎTRE, FINNEGANS WAKE is the new New Music trend from thriving Belgium. Recorded in 2001 on Gazul Records, "Pictures" loses beginning with a short passage close to the best THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHERSTRA. Invited for the occasion, guitarist Jacques COLLIN performs efficiently parts close to John McLAUGHLIN & Robert FRIPP. However, little by little, Progressive Jazz-Rock gives place to a bit disquieting and oppressive chamber music, to appear again like for UNIVERSE ZERO or PRESENT. It is worthy of note that clarinettist Dirk DESCHEEMAEKER, also a guest on this album, comes from this first band. Violin and brass perfectly response to electric instruments along compositions (Mainly instrumental) extended enough but finally easily listenable.
