Recorded at the Altes Casino in Montreux, Switzerland on November 21st, 1970, Live In Montreux 1970 captures Pink Floyd at a crucial point between the psychedelic explorations of the Syd Barrett era and the more expansive, architectural sound that would define their early-70s work. The performance is built around long, exploratory versions of key pieces from the period, with the band stretching familiar themes into atmospheric, slow-burning improvisations.
The set shows Pink Floyd in full command of space and dynamics: quiet passages drift patiently before giving way to heavier, more dramatic peaks, while pieces such as Atom Heart Mother, The Embryo, A Saucerful Of Secrets and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun reveal the group’s ability to turn live performance into something cinematic and unpredictable. This Top Gear edition adds two bonus tracks from the following night, offering an even fuller document of the band’s Montreux residency.
