Recorded in Rome and London during November and December 1969, this collection focuses entirely on Pink Floyd's work for Michelangelo Antonioni's Zabriskie Point. Rather than presenting the familiar various-artists soundtrack, it gathers the band's film pieces, alternate versions and outtakes into a single album-length sequence, offering a fascinating view of Pink Floyd between Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother.
The music shows the group exploring several directions at once: eerie soundtrack textures, pastoral instrumentals, blues fragments, spacious improvisation and early sketches of ideas that would later develop further in their 1970s work. Pieces such as Country Song, Rain In The Country and Alan's Blues reveal a more relaxed and atmospheric side of the band, while Come In Number 51 Your Time Is Up brings the heavier live energy of Careful With That Axe, Eugene into the cinematic world of Antonioni's film.
