Label: Eclipse Records
Pluto’s only album is a strong example of early-1970s British rock at the point where blues-based songwriting, hard rock weight and progressive ambition were beginning to overlap. The band keep the music direct and song-focused, but the arrangements have enough guitar bite, rhythmic movement and melodic detail to give the record a distinctive character beyond ordinary blues rock.
Originally released on Dawn in 1971, Pluto has the feel of a working band captured with little unnecessary decoration. Tracks such as Crossfire, Road To Glory and Stealing My Thunder show the group at their most forceful, while the more melodic material gives the album a warm, slightly underground early-70s atmosphere. This Eclipse Records edition adds two bonus tracks from the 1972 single, completing the picture of a band whose brief recorded output remains highly enjoyable for fans of British hard rock and progressive blues.
