ZELLO is a Swedish quintet led by singer P.O. SAETHER, whose main influence seems to be KANSAS. Just listen to the amazing "Quodlibet", and the never-boring 25 minute piece "Zwecia". This impression is reinforced by vocals reminding both of Steve WALSH and JOURNEY’s Steve PERRY, and by a romantic violin mixed with Hammond organ. The resemblance between ZELLO and KANSAS is a striking but well done and respectful. But it has nothing to do with cloning. For instance, when classical music comes in and guitars go away ! And you know what ? It rocks ! ZELLO’s second album was thus among the major 1999 releases in Progressive rock. You should definitely get it, if you missed it in that time…
