The incredibly prolific Canadian-born pianist Paul Bley first came on to the jazz scene after moving to NY in the early fifties. Initially playing in hard-bop groups, he soon branched out, notably playing with Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry at a time when the men where still considered “radical outsiders”. Originally released in 1966 for the BYG Actuel series, Ramblin’ comes from an experimental time in Bley’s career and is one of his more adventurous albums. Also available on CD (SPOT 528).
