Welsh Rocker David William 'Dave' Edmunds successfully combined traditional Rhythm & Blues with Soul and Rockabilly. In the late Seventies he released a string of bestselling albums, following a distinct formula that combined the energy of Pub Rock with Rockabilly swing. Edmunds must have thought: 'don't fix what isn't broken', revealed by his 1979 album title: Repeat When Necessary.

Behind him are Rockpile, the band that Edmunds formed with famed musician Nick Lowe in the mid Seventies, along with Billy Bremner and Terry Williams. Playing solid, rockin' rhythms, the group provides a sturdy foundation for Edmunds' entertaining croon - Fifties vibe meets Seventies sound. Recommended for fans of Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe!

The LP was recorded and released at the same time as Nick Lowe's Labour Of Lust, with the same set of Rockpile musicians. Only the guest musicians differed per album. On Repeat When Necessary by Dave Edmunds, guest appearances were made by Huey Lewis, Albert Lee and Roger Bechirian.

While the record mainly consists of (obscure) cover tunes, two songs were later recorded by famous artists as "Girls Talk" (written by Elvis Costello) was recorded later that year by Elvis Costello & The Attractions, and "Bad Is Bad" (written by Huey Lewis) was recorded years later by Huey Lewis & The News.
