Originally released in 1974 on Vanguard, this is an adventurous post-bop date featuring an especially inspired Watanabe (best known for his Charlie Parker-influenced alto playing) with Chick Corea (acoustic and electric piano), Miroslav Vitous (upright bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums). Round Trip is one of his finest works ranging from the Celtic-influenced, Weather Report-ish "Pastoral" to the contemplative "Nostalgia" to the insistent, 20-minute "Round Trip: Going And Coming".
