Saint Vitus is the ninth studio album by legendary American doom metal pioneers Saint Vitus, originally released by Season Of Mist in 2019. More than four decades after the band's formation, the album presents an uncompromising return to the crushing, slow and unmistakably heavy sound that helped define traditional doom metal.
The album marked the return of original vocalist Scott Reagers to a Saint Vitus studio recording for the first time since Die Healing. He is joined by founding guitarist Dave Chandler, bassist Pat Bruders and drummer Henry Vasquez.
Opening track Remains immediately establishes Dave Chandler's unmistakable distorted guitar sound, while Bloodshed and 12 Years In The Tomb introduce a faster, more aggressive edge. The massive Wormhole returns to the slow, crushing tempos at the heart of the Saint Vitus sound.
Hour Glass delivers classic doom riffing, while the eerie and experimental City Park uses atmospheric sounds and spoken vocals to create one of the album's strangest moments. The monumental Last Breath brings the record back into dark, traditional doom before the brief Useless closes the album.
Produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Tony Reed, Saint Vitus connects directly with the band's earliest work while retaining the weight and atmosphere developed throughout their long career.
