The rock ‘n’ roll world lost a huge talent when drummer/singer/songwriter /guitarist
Phil Seymour died of lymphoma at the unripe old age of 41 in 1993. Phil first made
his mark in the Dwight Twilley band, co-writing a number of classic power pop tunes
including I’m on Fire, then as a session man most notably on Tom Petty’s American
Girl. But it was on his solo work that his talent really shone; this record, his debut
album from 1981, is nowadays reckoned as one of the landmark power pop albums of
the era, and now we at Collectors’ Choice Music are reissuing it for the first time on
CD with the full cooperation of the Seymour estate. The album went to #64 on the
charts thanks to the hit Precous to Me, but there ain’t a weak track here; also includes
I Found a Love; Love You So Much; Baby It’s You; Let Her Dance; Then We Go Up;
Don’t Blow Your Life Away; We Don’t Get Along; Trying to Get to You; I Really Love You,
and Won’t Finish Here, plus the bonus album outtakes Looking for the Magic; How
About You, and I’ll Be Waiting. We’ve remastered the
album to make Richard Polodor’s production really
shine, and none other than Tom Petty is among the
notables to contribute to the notes.
